What do you do to improve your sleep?
It’s embarrassing to say, but I’ve really never thought about it. What do I do to improve my sleep?
I guess there are a few habits that probably help me.
As the evening rolls in, I intentionally pull away from social media and just relax. Sometimes I read something; sometimes I take up my knitting or crochet to soft background music. In other instances, I write in my diary: every day I try to write down what I am grateful for, something I am praying for, and one or two things I have learned in Bible study. It’s unfortunate that I don’t get to do this every single day, but lately, I have been really trying. Then, there are times I just enjoy some quiet time with God.
The end result? I find myself sleeping peacefully.
Though I must say, during seasons of stress, anxiety, or “in the pit” moments, I scroll a lot, which leads to me not getting proper sleep. All the things I usually do? I just don’t feel like doing them. Hence, at 3 a.m., I find myself wide awake, with my brain not resting at all.
I need to find a solution for this. Honestly, those are the exact moments when I need strategies or something to help me sleep better.
But on a regular day, just slowing down the pace and doing what I enjoy most helps me sleep because my mind is at peace. Figuring out how to improve my sleep when the blues hit—that is one thing I really want to learn.
It’s easy to maintain a peaceful routine when life is calm, but what about when the winds pick up? This month, I want to dive deeper into that exact space. For the rest of July, we’ll be exploring what it looks like to find true peace in the middle of a storm.
