The voice in me

beyond measure

Chapter 2

It was barely just after midnight, an unknown caller woke up Ruth, who had just had it for the week already. She hesitated to answer,  part of her could sense that something was not right. With a sleepy voice she answered the call, her stomach already turning.

Tears rolled down her cheeks, as the news of her daughters death was been delivered. She couldn’t believe it. It couldn’t be true , she had just lost her husband and now  their only daughter too. What ever game, life was pulling at her, it was set to drown her in endless pain, misery and loss.

‘Miss Kooper, are you on the line? Can you hear me, please? I said this is the Officer Martin of Suncity,  we have found a body of a young lady, whom we can’t identify at the moment, but your contact was found as one of the most frequently used saved as Ruth Kooper, we kindly ask that you may come and help us identify the body.” There was a long pause, followed by an outburst of a deeply troubled soul. The officer could tell that this Ruth Kooper might be more than just a frequent contact. “Please don’t tell me it’s my Tasha.  My only child.  The only person am left with in this world. My reason of being alive can’t be gone. NOOOOOOOO!”

An ambulance stood by the gate, neighbors watching from the side walks , some crying, some just sad for the old lady. Had it not been for the garbage guy who usually had a little chat with Martha for the past 6 years each time he came around, no one would have known that Martha was no more.  It had been 3 days already and the stench was so bad that the police and the people helping out had to wear masks.

“The old lady seem to have been staying by her self. Have been trying all the numbers listed on her next of Kin. No one is answering.  I wonder what she could have done to be abandoned by everyone like that.”, Lucy, the sister in charge at Central state hospital, where Matha’s body had been sent to. “Looks like it will be up to us either to cremate or burry,  we don’t have space right now. The police keep on piling these dead bodies here” , overworked and frustrated Mitchell responded. “If only the system worked efficiently, we wouldn’t be having all these problems.”Lucy concluded as she went with the filled in docucemts for Martha ,ready to send off the body to the mortuary department.

It had been 3 days and Ruth was still in disbelief.  Her only daughter was gone.  Felt like her life was gone. If only she had been more stern with her and stopped her from being too wild, she could still be with her , alive. If only she had been a better mother. Maybe of she had allowed her to go in the morning rather than forcing her to go to church with her, all this couldn’t have happened. life in itself had lost all meaning, she had failed it all.

“Michael , its time to set our plans in motion. Let them know that, I, the ‘Holy one’ am Sovereign. I am clothed with mercy, justice and  love.  The broken hearted do I seek to heal, the weak to strengthen,  the lost, found and the impossible, possible.”  A great thunder shook the heavens. A might roar that awakend a great army. As the words were being spoken, so was life starting to flow towards mankind which was just but a pile of dry bones.
