Shifting Perspectives: What It Truly Means to Walk in the Spirit

In our last conversation, we talked about peace—not just as a comforting gift we are given, but as a living, breathing fruit that grows when we walk by the Spirit. To round out our thoughts on this for the month, we have to look closer at what it actually means to walk in the Spirit.

Simply put, walking in the Spirit means living your daily life under the control and guidance of the power of the Holy Spirit. As we see in Scripture, the Spirit only speaks what He hears from the Father; He is the active voice of God guiding us step-by-step.

This brings us straight to the promise Jesus made:

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” — John 10:27

Being guided by the Holy Spirit isn’t about guessing in the dark. It is about tuning our spiritual ears to hear what God is saying, and then choosing to move under His instruction.

Changing the Lens: The World’s View vs. God’s Voice

Walking in the Spirit fundamentally changes how we interpret the circumstances around us. When trials hit, the world’s immediate reaction is panic and confusion. It feeds us questions like: What are you going to do now? How will you survive this?

But yielding to the Spirit means choosing a radically different perspective. It means asking: What is God saying about this situation?

Think about an unexpected closed door, like losing a job:

  • The world’s lens wants you to see a devastating dead-end meant to crush you.
  • God’s voice, however, is often redirecting you. It whispers: “This is not the path I have for you. Trust Me, I am clearing the way for something better, and I am going to prove it.”

When we consciously shift our perspective to align with His voice, we are actively submitting to His guidance. We stop reacting to our circumstances based on fear and start responding based on His truth.

Where Peace Takes Root

This is where everything connects.

When you can identify what God is saying in the middle of a storm, and you choose to walk by that reality instead of the world’s panic, something incredible happens: The fruit of peace begins to grow.

This isn’t a manufactured peace or a forced positive attitude. It is the natural overflow of trusting the One who is leading you. As Scripture promises:

“You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.” — Isaiah 26:3

Peace becomes the fruit because your mind is anchored in His perspective, not your problems. You begin to realize that every closed door, every unexpected pivot, and every season of transition isn’t abandonment—it is the Shepherd guiding His sheep to greener pastures.

Walking Forward Today

So, what are you facing right now? Are you looking at it through the lens of worldly anxiety, or are you pausing long enough to listen to the whisper of the Spirit?

Let’s practice stepping out of panic and into His instructions this week. Because when we hear His voice and follow it, peace is bound to follow.
