I know this is a well know story, most of us have heard for a thousand times already, but I thought I should share a thing or two I picked up from this.
So this will be more like a bible study and our aim will be to figure out the following .
- What does the scripture or chapter tell us about God ( features, characteristics, anything really)
- And how we can relate it to our own lives
With that said, lets hit it off.
Genesis 1, we meet God not as a distant observer, but as an active, deeply intentional Creator.
Before light ever pierced the darkness, Genesis 1:2 tells us that the Earth was formless, empty, and dark—but the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
That word hovering is profound. It’s the same language used to describe a parent bird brooding over her nest—protectively cradling, nurturing, and holding close what is about to be brought forth. Right from the start, God wasn’t distant. He was right there over the dark, chaotic void, preparing to bring forth life.
When you look closely at how God created the world, a clear 3-part pattern emerges:
1. Declaration of Intent: God speaks the vision into existence before it physically appears. He doesn’t stumble into creation; He conceives the idea and declares it.
2. The Work of Formation: God enters into the process. He shapes, separates, builds, and places every detail with meticulous precision.
3. The Inspection & Approval: God stops, evaluates what He made, and pronounces it “good.”
God isn’t a chaotic builder. He doesn’t randomly scatter pieces around and hope the dots eventually connect. He works with purpose, care, and absolute intentionality.
What This Means for Your Life
It’s easy to look at that creation story and think it only applies to planets, stars, and oceans. But the same God who crafted the cosmos crafted you.
Your life follows that same pattern of intentionality. Before you were ever formed, God declared His intent for you. He put in the work to shape your detail, your personality, your story, and your purpose.
And here is the most powerful part: Your very presence today is proof of His approval.
When God looks at what He formed in you, He doesn’t view you as an accident or an afterthought. The fact that you are here—breathing, present, and existing—means God inspected the design of your life and declared, “This is good. This belongs here.”
God is not a distant landlord watching from light-years away. He is in the work, He is in the process, and He is in every detail of your life. Even when things around you feel formless, dark, or chaotic, remember that His Spirit is still hovering, cradling, and actively at work.
A little bit of my personal reflection on this , is in the link below.
