If you had the power to change one law, what would it be and why?
In all honesty, it’s a conflicting matter altogether. Depending on background, culture, and beliefs, anyone can have a different opinion on the matter. Let’s talk about The system.
Over the years great leaders and passionate people have laid for us foundations of how to adress certain matters. Though systems were set in place and have indeed been of incredible help in ways we can’t argue, I still feel there is a need to review some of them and adjust to fit the current times.
It’s a matter that dearly touches my soul as it has everything to do with children and the future. I will give 2 matters that concern me.
Firslty, raising children is no easy task, especially in this generation of increased knowledge, exposure and pressure. Orphanage systems have been guided on a simple principle, raise the Kids , provide education,food shelter and clothes. In general, to equip the kids with skills so that by 18 they can fend for themselves.
I don’t know about other cultures out there, but from where I am from, by 18 most children will still be lost not knowing or understanding their own identity. It’s so easy to find a 25 year old still staying at home with parents, no job , no career happening just trying to find means to survive. Now imagine an orphan who has absolutely no one to fall on. Once 18 they have to figure out a way forward.
Secondly,should we allow a 16 year old to be able to consent for sex if they so wish to indulge in it ? Are we saying by this age we have the ability to make decisions that are sound and a representation of who we are?
What if the brokenness of the young generation (addictions) are a result of being released into the world too early.
What factors are being considered now,to ascertain that one is an adult? Is age alone a fair parameter ?
Conflicting but that’s what I would not necessarily change but revise for it to be relevant.
